Christmas Reminiscence: Throwback to When Adults Were Kids
Christmas in childhood wasn’t just a day. It was an entire season of magic. Back then, the excitement started long before December 25th, with whispers of Santa Claus, jingles of church bells, and the aroma of different delicacies.
One of the most treasured moments was the unveiling of that single new outfit—usually the only one all year. It didn’t matter if it was a simple dress or shirt; it felt like the fanciest attire in the world. Children paraded in their new clothes with pride, often complemented by shiny, oversized shoes that squeaked with every step.
The food? Absolutely unforgettable. The sight of steaming pots of jollof rice, the aroma of fried chicken, and the sweetness of chin-chin and puff-puff filled the air. Guests would come bearing gifts or blessings, and the neighborhood was alive with children carrying plates of food to share with others. Every house had a taste of something different, making the rounds even more exciting.
Christmas carols brought families together as kids sang at churches or doorsteps, their voices blending with the laughter of relatives who hadn’t seen each other in months. The streets were alive with firecrackers and sparklers, and the world seemed to glow just a little brighter.
Looking back, Christmas wasn’t about grand decorations or expensive gifts; it was about togetherness, the thrill of the little things, and the simplicity of joy. What are your fondest memories of Christmas as a child? Let’s celebrate those beautiful moments that shaped us!
