Premier League Managers Who Won the Title in Their First Season

Premier League Managers Who Won the Title in Their First Season

If Arne Slot leads Liverpool to Premier League glory in his debut campaign, he’ll join an exclusive group of managers who’ve done the same. Only six managers have won the title in their first season with a club. Here's a quick look at those remarkable debut champions:

Managers to Win the Premier League in Their First Season at a Club:

Alex Ferguson – Manchester United, 1992-93

José Mourinho – Chelsea, 2004-05

Carlo Ancelotti – Chelsea, 2009-10

Manuel Pellegrini – Manchester City, 2013-14

Claudio Ranieri – Leicester City, 2015-16

Antonio Conte – Chelsea, 2016-17

Sir Alex Ferguson – Manchester United (1992-93)

While Ferguson had already been at United for years, the 1992-93 season marked the Premier League’s debut, making it technically his first in the competition. United overcame a shaky start to end a 26-year title drought, launching one of football’s most dominant eras.

José Mourinho – Chelsea (2004-05)

Fresh off a Champions League win with Porto, Mourinho announced himself in England as “a special one.” He backed it up by guiding Chelsea to their first league title in 50 years, conceding just 15 goals all season, still a record.

Carlo Ancelotti – Chelsea (2009-10)

Ancelotti brought style and goals to Stamford Bridge, leading Chelsea to a third Premier League crown. His team scored 103 goals — a Premier League record at the time — with Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard leading the charge.

Manuel Pellegrini – Manchester City (2013-14)

City started slowly but caught fire mid-season with a 20-game unbeaten streak. Pellegrini's men edged it in a thrilling title race with Liverpool by one point. Yaya Touré was instrumental, scoring 20 goals from midfield.

Claudio Ranieri – Leicester City (2015-16)

Ranieri’s appointment raised eyebrows, but the Italian crafted one of the greatest underdog stories in sports. With Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez, and N’Golo Kanté at the heart of a disciplined, counterattacking unit, Leicester shocked the world to win the title.

Antonio Conte – Chelsea (2016-17)

Conte arrived after a disappointing season for Chelsea and introduced a revolutionary 3-4-3 system. The Blues won 30 of their 38 games — the first side to do so in Premier League history — and stormed to the title.

If Slot pulls it off, he’ll become just the seventh manager to achieve this rare feat — and the first Liverpool boss to do so in the Premier League era.
